Let It Ride Poker Basics And Tips

13 May

Though Let It Ride Poker is generally considered to be one of the simplest and easiest poker games to learn, there is always value in studying the game as much as you can before sitting down at the table or playing online.

Beginner’s mistakes can be costly when you are playing with real money, which is why we’ve outlined some tips for success at Let It Ride Poker.

Let It Ride Poker employs a different betting system than many other poker games, in which players are able to withdraw one third of their wager at two points during each hand. Three cards are dealt to each player in addition to two face down community cards.

Players will have the option to withdraw their bet before the first card is revealed, as well as before the second card is revealed. Online Let It Ride Poker differs from the live version in that the full wager is not placed upfront, but rather players place only their ante bet initially and then have the opportunity to bet twice more prior to the revealing of the community cards.

Another feature of Let It Ride Poker that distinguishes it from other poker games is that in Let It Ride, players are playing against the house rather than against each other. Winning hands earn payouts, which are established using a payout chart that can vary between different casinos and online rooms. There are two crucial points during a hand of Let It Ride Poker during which players will want to employ proper strategy, those times being before the first community card is revealed and before the second is flipped.

There are three basic hands to look for before deciding to raise before the first community card is revealed: pair of 10s or better, 3 card Royal Flush, or 3 card Straight Flush. With the exception of the Straight Flush, you will want to raise if you hold these cards. If you have a Straight Flush toward the lower end, do not raise. Should your Straight Flush be on the higher end, it is good strategy to raise at this time.

Raising on the second bet is advisable when you have winning cards, a 4 card Royal Flush, or a 4 card Straight Flush that again is toward the higher end. If you are interested in learning to play Let It Ride Poker, a free version is available at Bodog Casino.

An Insider’s Guide To Finding The Best Poker Rooms

18 Apr

With so many online poker rooms competing in a relatively small market, it can be difficult to know what the differences among them.  What makes a good poker room good and a bad poker room bad?  In this brief guide, we’ll tell you what to look for and also what to look out for when searching for the right online poker room for you.

Larger Rooms Tend to Be More Stable Rooms

Best poker roomsBefore you deposit real money onto a poker site, you’re going to want to be assured that your money is secure and that the site is stable.  How can you tell a stable room from an instable room?  One big tip-off is the overall size of the room. Larger rooms tend to be more stable, because they can’t “fly under the radar” – that is to say that they are typically regulated and licensed rooms.  Smaller rooms might not be subject to the same rules as larger rooms, making them inherently less stable.

Another thing to consider when searching for the best poker rooms is that a larger room naturally will have a larger staff, making it more likely that any issues you have with the room will be quickly addressed by support.

You Must Educate Yourself About The Rake

Different rooms charge different rake, and even within rooms the rake can vary between games.  Rake is a huge cost and one that is incredibly easy to ignore, but it adds up quickly.  Educating yourself about the amount of rake you’re paying will not only help you choose the right games, but will also make it easier for you to judge whether or not a promotion is a worthwhile investment.  As many promotions are linked to the amount you rake, you may find you are spending time and money pursuing worthless promotions.

Avoid Rooms That Accept US Players

Online poker is not currently not considered legal by the United States government, thus avoiding rooms that accept US players is important.  If these rooms are operating in the US, it means they are operating illegally and are putting their business and any money you invest in the site at risk of seizure by the United States government.  Any room operating in the US is therefore not to be considered stable and should be avoided.  Stick either with rooms that don’t have any history with the US market –  like Red Kings Poker –  or rooms that have already reached explicit settlements with the US government like Party Poker or 888.

You Should Generally Not Trust Reviews

We’ve all trusted a restaurant or product review online, only to be treated to a sub par meal or an inferior product.  The reason is, of course, that paid reviews are rampant online.  The same is true for poker reviews.  So many of the reviews are phony, and sometimes it can be hard to tell the real from the fake.

Add that to the fact that satisfied customers are less prone to leaving reviews than those who are unhappy makes for incredibly unbalanced reviews that skew either extremely negative or positive.  Instead of trusting dubious online reviews, research the rooms yourself according to the points above, and you’ll have no trouble finding the best poker rooms.

Stud Poker Review: America’s Cardroom

17 Apr

Acr stud pokerStud poker has long been regarded as America’s Game, which is where America’s Cardroom comes in.  They believe that Americans should be free to play online poker, which is why they make it easy for USA Players to deposit funds to play real money online poker.

Depositing Is Easy At ACR

It hasn’t been easy for USA players in the last year, but this is not so at America’s Cardroom.  With a starting deposit of only $ 50 and several different easy pay methods, US players needn’t look anywhere else for real money play.  It’s easy to deposit right from the table, with no need to go to the cashier.  Americas Cardroom also lets you set up deposit limits, so you never have to deposit more than you feel comfortable with.

Cashing out is easy, too.  Just enter the amount you want to cash out and they’ll do the rest.  Support is available 24/7 and it’s reassuring to know that America’s Cardroom retains all deposits in a separate account, never to be used for operational costs.

Great Promotions For Stud Poker Players

America’s Cardroom is offering a bunch of great promotions for USA stud poker players.  Currently they’re running a new depositor freeroll with a 100% bonus up to $ 1000 as well as a free seat with first deposit.

Through April 28, they’re running the $ 5K LSOP race.  With $ 1000 being given away to each of the top 75 players on April 29, there is no reason not to deposit on America’s Cardroom.

If Sit n Gos are more your speed, play $ 10K Sit n Go Mania all month long during April to earn points toward America’s Cardroom’s Sit n Go Mania.  The top 125 earners will each be awarded $ 10,000 at the end of the month.  What could be easier?

Stud Poker Traffic Is Low, But Competition is Weak

If there is any downside to America’s Cardroom, it’s that the stud poker traffic is on the low side.  But, even downsides have upsides – in this case the lower traffic makes for weak competition.

ACR Accepts Stud Players From the USA

As it gets harder and harder to find rooms for USA stud players, America’s Cardroom is making it easy.  With the ease of depositing, playing, and withdrawing from America’s Cardroom, there’s no reason for USA stud players to look anywhere else.

Bonuses For New Players at America’s Cardroom

15 Apr

America’s Cardroom, or ACR, has been getting a lot of buzz since the room relaunched a few months ago.  Brought back from the dead to house the former customers of the now-closed Doyle’s Room, ACR instantly became a common topic of poker conversation.

Americas-card-roomNowhere is ACR more frequently discussed than among USA players, who have increasingly few options to choose from in the wake of Black Friday.  Many may already be familiar with the network ACR calls home, the Winning Poker Network, via sister site True Poker, but a large number may not had a previous experience with the room.

For those interested in learning a bit more about what Americas Cardroom has to offer to new players, this article will briefly outline the bonuses that are exclusive to those trying ACR for the first time.  Note that players who had Doyle’s Room accounts migrated to ACR may not qualify for the bonuses and the promotions below.

First up is the initial deposit bonus.  First-time depositors can get a bonus of 100% with a maximum bonus of $1000 total.  The bonus is somewhat unique in that it is released in $1 increments, whereas most bonuses are released in increments of $5 or greater.  That might seem small, but every dollar helps.  The bonus clears at about Ǫ%, which isn’t the greatest rate, but the VIP bonuses you earn while clearing the bonus do help to offset the low rate.

Also exclusive for new players: The new depositor freeroll.  Make the minimum deposit with your method of choice at ACR and you’ll be given a ticket to a freeroll that weekend with a prize pool of $250.  The player pools for the freeroll are quite small, so there’s some good value for those who do choose to play.

In addition to those exclusive promotions, new players are also qualified for all of the standard promotions at ACR, including the VIP program mentioned above.  Also good to keep an eye out for are the monthly points races at ACR, which can be worth hundreds of dollars to higher-volume players.

Will Full Tilt Poker Offer Rakeback on Relaunch?

15 Apr

Full-tilt-poker-rakebackWith their relaunch apparently impending, Full Tilt Poker is about to start providing answers to a multitude of questions from poker players.  While there are obviously some big questions that will need to be taken care of first (US account balances come to mind), smaller yet still significant questions will likely be addressed during relaunch or shortly after.  One question you can expect to be in that group is how Full Tilt Poker will handle rakeback going forward.

The issue of rakeback is going to be a tricky one for a variety of reasons, not the least of which being that the new company will be clearly short on funds and looking to reign in costs wherever possible.  You can bet that someone over at GBT will look at the amount of money flowing out via rakeback to players and affiliates and get the bright idea that one decision could save a pile of cash.

That said, it’s likely that existing rakeback deals are safe –  for now, at least.  While the company will definitely need money, it will also need customers.  The community of those who play real money poker online is a smaller one than some might think, and cutting off rakeback for players who previously had the deal would be a pretty poor first step for the company.  Full Tilt won’t want to risk anything that might undermine their relaunch, and a riot among prospective regulars would definitely qualify as a risk FTP will go out of their way to avoid.

Based on that logic, one could expect rakeback to be available briefly for new accounts when Full Tilt does reopen for business.  The company knows that their first few weeks are absolutely make-or-break, and they might be willing to mortgage a bit of the future just to ensure that a future exists at all.  Chances are, however, that the company would prefer to use one-time promotions that can make more of a splash –  like the International Poker Tour –  without saddling the company with long-term liabilities.

For those who thought the story of FTP closing was interesting, get ready –  the story of the room relaunching should provide even more twists and turns than the original.

Staying Safe With Online Poker: Essential Steps

8 Apr

While there are inherent risks to many online activities which necessitate the use of a credit card or the sharing of bank account information, staying safe with online gambling is of particular concern to those who enjoy this activity.

When playing real money poker online –  or any other betting game - there are a couple of important things to remember in order to stay secure, protect your privacy, and safeguard your financial information when gambling online.

Use a separate email for your gambling accounts

Secure-online-pokerOne precaution to take to ensure online security is to use a separate email address for your gambling accounts.  Often a personal email account will contain sensitive information, such as a last name, geographic location, and birth date.  In the event that your everyday email falls prey to a hacker, none of your sensitive information will be threatened if you are maintaining a separate email account for online gambling.  Furthermore, you are far more likely to check your regular email periodically throughout the day, and from insecure locations such as a public wireless network or at work.  You are far less likely to do this with a dedicated gambling email account, thus further ensuring the security of this account.

Do not play using public Wifi

Avoiding using public Wifi for online gambling.  Public networks are notoriously insecure, and it is very easy for someone to access your information on a shared network.  If you do spend a lot of time online in public, it is wise to invest in a personal mobile hotspot or other private, secure mobile network on which to play.  This way you can control who is on the network – you – and be assured that your activities and information remain safe.  The small monthly fee is well worth it for the peace of mind.

Never leave too much money on one site

After you have researched a site and determined it is safe to deposit money, it is smart never to deposit too much on any one site.  In the event that a particular site shuts down, you have hedged your bets by spreading your money between sites.  There is nothing insuring your money, and therefore there is no recourse in the event of a loss or irreconcilable bank error.  By never keeping too much money in any one site, you are making sure to keep the bulk of your funds safe.

Research sites before you make a deposit

Up until now we’ve been discussing what you can do stay safe while playing online poker and casino games.  One of the best things you can do happens before play even begins – and that is to do your homework and research the sites before you make a deposit.  Do a bit of investigation into the background of the site and its history.  Other players might be saying things, both good and bad, about the site and it is best to know before you deposit money on a site whether it can be trusted.  Making an educated decision about which sites to avoid will help keep your money safe when gambling online.

Bankroll Management

30 Mar

The key to any successful poker player’s career, even those who only play occasionally on Unibet casino, is bankroll management. As with sports betting on the Unibet odds, knowing which games you can afford to play and which ones you can’t, can be the difference between going broke or breaking into the big time.

In many poker books the generally accepted rule is that if you are a cash game player then you need at least 20x the maximum buy-in for the game to comfortably sit down and play. If you’re a tournament player then you should risk no more than 2% of your bankroll.

These rules have served many players well, especially in the early years after the poker boom. Indeed, Chris “Jesus” Ferguson demonstrated the power of sound bankroll management by turning $ 0 into $ 10,000, just by sticking to the above rules.

However, as the game has progressed, it’s now been necessary to up those requirements. For cash game players plying the trade at the online poker tables, the general rule is that you should have at least 40-50 buy-ins for your desired level. This means if you want to play in game where the blinds are $ 0.50/$ 1 then you would need at least $ 4,000 in your account to be comfortable.

Similarly with tournaments, you should have at least 100 buy-ins to protect yourself from the inevitable downswings that will occur during your career.

The reason these requirements have changed is because the game is always getting tougher. Players are continuing to learn and improve every year. Thus, it now makes sense to have a greater financial cushion because it’s harder to beat the players at your table.

Another important thing to consider is that bankroll management should be aligned with an appreciation of your own skill level. Just because you have a large enough bankroll to play at $ 1/$ 2 stakes, it doesn’t automatically mean you should play these games.

Sound bankroll management + knowing your limits = long-term poker success.

Play the Player

29 Mar

As anyone who has ever played the game on Unibet casino will know, poker is a game of incomplete information so the more data you can gather the greater chance you have of winning the pot. One way in which you can greatly improve your success rate at the table is by playing the player.

This essentially means discarding your cards (metaphorically) and using your opponent’s tendencies against them. Like a CSI detective you must tap into their psyche and workout what they’re thinking in a range of situations.

For example, if a player is constantly raising when they have a good hand but only calling when they have a medium strength hand, you can use this against them. So, when they raise you can fold all but your strongest holdings; however, when they call you can raise them with almost anything and expect them to fold a high percentage of the time.

Or, to expand on this idea further, you could simply call their raises when you have position and a hand with potential. For instances, you may notice that your opponent only raises pre-flop with poker aces. If you find yourself in a position to act after them and you have a hand such as 6-7 suited, you could be in a position to take their stack.

Obviously the Unibet odds are stacked against you pre-flop (pocket aces would be a 77% favourite). However, if you were to hit a favourable flop where you picked up a flush or straight draw, you’d have a good chance of winning the hand. Indeed, because your hand would be disguised (meaning that it wouldn’t be obvious you had a hand such as 6-7 suited) you’d be much more likely to get your opponent’s stack.

While poker is a game made up of card combinations, it is still played by people. Knowing which cards to play and when is important, but it’s much more important to know who you are playing and why.

Online vs Live Poker

28 Mar

The poker world is split into two very distinct camps: the live scene and the online poker scene. Both have their crossover stars, as anyone who has played at Unibet casino will know, but at their core they are very separate entities.

While the game of Texas No Limit Hold’em or Pot Limit Omaha is the same whether played online or live, the fundamental skill set needed for each is different.

Live poker is a much more sedate affair with far less aggression than its online counterpart. In a live poker tournament or cash game you can expect to see, on average, 30 hands per hour. This means the amount of time you actually spend betting, folding or raising is a lot less than if you were playing online and seeing 100 hands per hour.

A-deck-of-cardsIn contrast, online poker gives you the option of multi-tabling (playing 2+ tables at once) something which gives you more chance to win, or lose, a lot of money. Because of this you often need to adopt a much more aggressive style of play and have a larger bankroll to play online poker.

Six player tables are also much more common in online poker than they are in the live arena. This variation of the game is more aggressive than nine player games and requires a greater amount of skill. Overall game selection is also greater in the virtual poker world, with some sites averaging over 100,000 users at peak times.

In the modern game many believe that players who learn to play poker online have a greater skill set than those who’ve gained their experience in live games. This is purely opinion, but it is fair to say that the absence of lives tells has meant that online poker players who use services like Unibet wedden have had to develop a more mathematically sound game.

However, many players tend to enjoy live poker over its online equivalent due to the social aspect of the game. Indeed, it’s often the case that recreational players gravitate to live poker as a form of entertainment, rather than online poker which is more of a place where profit is paramount.
